After completing a long course in global education through George Mason, I have received my country assignment! I will be going to Uganda in April! This will be a return trip to Africa for me and honestly I have mixed emotions. When my husband and I went to Africa in 2010, I left the country with a sense of unease. It was the first time in my life that poverty was visible to me. Let me qualify that, it wasn't just the visible poverty but the difference between those that had and those that had not. These images have haunted me since I left.
I realize that there is a reason I am being asked to return. There is a greater calling...to not only grow myself as a person but to also bring these experiences back to students in my own country. Already the wheels in my head a spinning toward how to build this experience into Science and Math. I foresee some lessons on Population Rate, Sixth Mass Extinction, Food and Water Resources, Spread of Disease...
